Department of Arabic

The Department of Arabic at Sree Neelakanta Government College, Pattambi has been functioning since 1968. From 1968 to 2012, it offered the common papers of Arabic as Second Language only and in 2012, it started offering BA Arabic course. Since its introduction, the department has been making significant achievements in the academic and other fields. After the completion of 3 years of BA in Arabic Language and Literature course, it is a matter of pride that a golden feather was added to the department when all the three batches have successfully completed the course with 100% success.In addition to the curricular and extra-currricular activities and programs especially meant for the students of the department and college, the department strives to meet the general and public requirements regarding Arabic language, extending its services to all through translation bureau and community extension programs. Presently the department has four members of teaching faculty. It is equipped with all facilities and modern equipments. With professionally trained members on the staff, it provides ample scope for the students to get themselves exposed to translation, communicative and functional Arabic and software packages in Arabic

Generation Meet

The Department conducted a Generation Meet on 28-09-2015. The meet was inaugurated by VK Ibrahim Kunh, Kerala State Minster for Public Works Department. CP Mohammed MLA chaired in the session. The first UG batch of the Department was honored in the session for its result with 100% in the University Examination. The Minister gave away Prof. V. Mohammedali Memorial award to PP Ajmal, the toper of the University Examination.

Formation of Arabic Alumni

Arabic Department Alumni were formed in the Alumni meet held on 30-09-2015. The meet was inaugurated by VK Ibrahim Kunh, Kerala State Minster for Public Works Department. He also honored Dr. Abdu. P, Head of the Department for being awarded PhD in Arabic Language and Literature from Mahatma Gandhi University and presented him the memento of the former students of the Department.

National Workshop on ICT Enabled Arabic Education

The Department of Arabic conducted a Three Day National Workshop on “ICT Enabled Arabic Education” on 16,17 & 18 December 2015. The workshop inaugurated by Dr. Hussain Madavoor, Secretary General of League of Indo-Arab Relations. College Principal Prof. Anitha Kumari chaired the Inaugural session. The participants of the workshop became familiar with possibilities of ICT enabled Arabic Education.

Inauguration of Arabic Association

The Arabic Association for the Academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated by Noushad Mannisseri, Member, Kerala Youth Welfare Board. Dr. Abdu was in the chair. Prof. Roy.Staff Advisor, Prof. Kaladharan, PTA Secretary, Prof. Dileep, Head of the Department of Physical Education, PT Mohamed Master, Praveen, Representative of College Union, Dr. KM Hilal and Mohahmmed Swalih delivered felicitations.

Intensive Training for Bilingual Interpretation and Communication

On 29-02-2016 the Department conducted an Intensive Training for Bilingual Interpretation and Communication. Prof. PN Anithakumar, College Principal inaugurated the Training Programme. Prof. Abdu. P, Head of the Dapartment was in the chair. Mr. SP Abdul, Famous Trainer of American Toefl Institute was the Resource Person of the training session. Prof. Seeja H, Head of the Dept. of English, Prof. Roy, Student Editor delivered felicitations.

Workshop on Arabic Tourism

On 02-03-2016 the Department conducted a one day workshop on “Arabic Tourism and Hospitality Management: New Horizons”. Prof. PN Anithakumar, College Principal inaugurated the workshop. Prof. Abdu. P, Head of the Dapartment chaired in the workshop. MB Mohammed, Managing Director, Siyaha Holiday, kochi, Abdul Kareem Edathol, Former Translator, Court of Al Ain delivered their talks in the workshop.

Punnasseri Memorial Talk

On 4th March 2016 the Department conducted Punnasseri Memorial Talk. Prof. PN Anithakumar, College Principal inaugurated the Programme. Adv. Onampally Muhammed Faizy delivered the keynote address. Prof. Abdu. P, Head of the Department chaired in the session. Dr. Amala, Head of the Dept. of Sanskrit. delivered felicitaitons.

Sent off to Second UG Batch on 11-03-2016

The Department arranged a farewell programme on 11-03-2016 for the final year students of the Academic year 2015-16 that is second batch of the Department. The programme was Inaugurated by Prof. M.P. Ishaq, Deputy Director, Collegiate Education. . Prof. Abdu. P, Head of the Department chaired in the session. Felicitations : Dr.Abdul Majeed. E, Assist Prof. Dept. of Arabic, University of Calicut, Dr. PM Musthafa, Head of the Dept. of Arabic, Maharajas College Ernakulam, felicitated the programme.

Conclusion:

The Department of Arabic thanks to all those who supported and cooperated with the programmes conducted by the Department in the academic year 2015-16 and herewith this report is concluded.

Annual Report 2016-17

AcademicActivities

On 2 November 2016 Wednesday, the department organized Arabic Alumni Meet. It was attended by Kulathur T Mohammad Moulawi, former member of Kerala Public Service Commission as chief guest and he distributed the award to Miss C Mubassira who scored the highest mark in the University Examination. Prof. P N Anithakumari (the Principal), Engineer Abdulla (the President, Arabic Alumni), Dr. Moiduppa (former faculty member of the department), Mr. V Anas (the Secretary, Arabic Alumni) and the representatives from the PTA, students union and other departments also attended and delivered talk in the program.

In the afternoon, an academic session in which Mustafa Hashim, the JCI trainer led an interaction with the students of the department was held. The interaction concentrated on the systematic approach of dealing with the life realities with confidence and achieving the coveted.

On 9 November 2016 Wednesday, a reception was accorded by the department to the official of the ministry of communication and information technology, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who was in college to visit the library of the college. In the program, the guest led an interactive session with the students of the department.

On 14, 15 and 16 December 2016 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the department organized a three day workshop on the Current Trends and Techniques of Translation – English and Arabic. The workshop in which professional translators with first-hand experience from various parts of India led the practical sessions proved to be very effective. The sessions held in three days were attended and led by Prof. Ahmad Ibrahim (New College, Chennai), Dr. Thameem Ansari (New College, Chennai), Dr. K Hamza, KP Shafeeq, Abdussalam Faizi, Prof. M Aboobacker and Dr. Veeran Moideen.

On 16 December 2016 Friday, the department observed the World Arabic Language Day with various programs. A handwritten Arabic magazine published by the students of the department was released in the program. Prof. PN Anithakumari, the principal, Dr. Veeran Moideen, Dr. P Abdu, Prof. Ashraf, Mr. Shareef, Prof. Roy, Dr. KM Hilal, Dr. Santhosh, Dr. Pushpakadas, Prof. Sheeja, Mr. Basheer, Mr. V Abdurrasheed, Mr. Nizar and Mr. Mohamed Swalih attended the program and conveyed their messages in connection with the Arabic Language Day.

On 10 January 2017 Tuesday, the department held a community extension program under the banner of awareness about the welfare schemes under the government and the procedures to avail it to the needy. A help desk for filling the application form for Haj 2017 was constituted in connection with it. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Vapputi (the Municipal chairman). Mr. AR Sharath (the coordinator, Vayomithram- Kerala Social Security Mission) and Mr. K Mubarak (the head of the district Haj cell) delivered the awareness talks on various social welfare schemes and projects of the government.

I feel proud to mention that the help desk of Haj 2017 was a big success in the sense that it could extend the help to hundreds of Haj applicants from various localities. Also, more remarkably, some students of the department were motivated by the awareness program on the social welfare schemes and they could fetch governmental assistance to many of the weak illiterate people in their respective native places.

On 9 February 2017 Thursday, the department held a national seminar on the theme ‘Local Contribution to the Poetry of Arabic’. In an attempt to bring the local authors in Arabic and their works to the academic limelight, lectures and research papers were presented by A K Eisa (principal – Salafiyya College, Karinganad), Mr. Mohammed Farooqi (the Arabic poet), Mr. Aboobacker (the Arabic poet), Azeez Farooqi (the Arabic poet), Mr. Abdulla Amanath (the Arabic poet), Dr. Noorul Ameen (Head, Dept. of Arabic, Government College, Kasargode), Mr. Shahi Mon (Research Scholar, Maharajas College) and Saeed Aslam. Dr. P Abdu (the head of the department), Prof. Mohammed Ashraf, Mr. Mohammed Shareef KP, Mr. Nizar, K T Ruqiya (Municipal Councilor), Prof. Roy (students adviser), Neeraj (Secretary, University Union) and Mohammed Swalih (Secretary, Arabic Association) delivered the talks.

KP Badarunnisa, the presidential award winner for courage and VS Fasil, the winner in the Arabic poem recitation in the state arts fest were honoured in the inaugural session of the seminar.

On 22 February 2017 Wednesday, ‘Mehfil’ was held on the occasion of the Arabic Association inauguration. In the inaugural session, the chief guest Prof. Abid Husain (Member of Legislative Assembly) delivered the inaugural address highlighting the remarkable contribution by the languages to the integrity of India. His address was followed by the felicitation talks by Dr. P Abdu, Prof. Mohamed Ashraf, Mr. V M Mohammed Ali, Mr. CMA Kareem, Mr. PT Mohamed, Mr. TP Usman, Prof. Roy, Mr. Nizar, Mr. Shareef, Mr. Nithin and Mr. Mohamed Swalih. In the afternoon, students showcased performances of various arts and culture programs.

On 23 March, a farewell was accorded to the passing out third batch. In the program, teachers and students of the department delivered their words of goodwill.

The Department of Arabic conducted a one day talk program with the title of ‘Ramdan Thoughts’ on 14 June 2017. Prof. Dr. A. I Vilayathullah,(Department of English, govt. College, Malappura) presented the talk on the topic of ‘The Quran and the Human Aspects’.The program chaired by Dr. P. Abdu was inaugurated by Prf. Punnoos Jacob, (principal, SNGS College). Prof. Muhammed Asheref, Nizr Ibrahim, Muhammed Swalih attended the function.

On 13 0ctober 2017 the Department of Arabic organized the annual Arabic Meet for the graduates of Arabic Department. Mr. Muhammed Muhsin MLA inaugurated the function and distributed the Prize to P.T Nasira for highest score in Degree examination. Principal K.K Suma chaired the function. HAJJ HELP DESK, SOCIAL WELFAR SCHEEMS AWARENESS

21 November 2017

The Department of Arabic organized a one day help desk to assist the public to apply for Hajj 2017 and other social welfare schemes of government. Mr. Bapputty ( Chairman, Pattambi Municipality) inaugurated the program. Hajj District Trainer K. Mubarak provided the Hajj applicants with the guidelines for Hajj application 2017.The District Coordinators of Social Security Mission A. R. Sarath and Jismy Joney presented an awareness class about different social welfare schemes of government. Prof. PK Prasanna, College Principal chaired the function. Dr. P Abdu, Head of the Department, Prof. Muhammed Asheref, Muhammadali wafy, Ashraf, Secretary, Arabic Association, Hajj Volunteers P, Yusuf, PA Shameer, V.K Muhammed, H. WORLD ARABIC DAY CELEBRATION

16, 18,19 December 2017

In collaboration with DPI (Arabic Unit)the department of Arabic celebrated the WORLD ARABIC DAY on 16, 18 and 19 December 2017 with various programs. The celebrations were inaugurated by Mr. Muhammed Muhsin MLA and presided by Additional DPI Mr. Sunny Joseph. P. Krishnan, DDE Palakkad, Mrs. Sheeja, Mrs. Ruqiya, Counselors, Pattambi Municipality, Prof. PK Prasanna, Principal, SNGS college Pattambi, Dr. P Abdu, Head of the Department, Mrs. Ambikavalli, DEO, Mr. Sahjimon AEO, Mr. Narayanan, Vice president PTA, Mr. Raheem ASO, Mr. Saleem Farooqi, Mr, Sainudheen, Mr. Muhammed , Idavam Khalid, Mr. Abdul Aziz and many other eminent personalities delivered their talks and felicitated the function. Professors, Scholars, teachers and students from across the nation became the part of the celebration.

As the part of this celebration the Department conducted a state level Arabic seminar. Former MP Mr. MP Abdussamad Samadani inaugurated the seminar. Dr. E. Abdul Majeed, Asst. Prof. Calicut University, Prof. Hussain Palekkoden. Asst. Prof. Govt. College, Tanur, and Dr. Shaik Muhammed MUA College Pulikkal, presented research papers on different topics. The valedictory function, presided by the C. Sangeetha, Chair person, Municipality of Pattambi was inaugurated by VM Muhammadali, President of Block Panchayat.

TWO DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP

18, 19 December 2017

The Department of Arabic conducted a two day national workshop on the theme of Improving Penmanship in Arabic Language; Theory and Practice on 18, 19 December 2017. The workshop held at seminar hall of the college attended by scholars, experts, students, research scholars, and aspirants of Arabic Language from across the country.

The workshop is inaugurated by Dr. Muhammed Shameem Nizami Bihar, Assistant Professor of Arabic, Department of Foreign Languages, Indian Naval Academy. In the inaugural session chaired by Dr. PK Prasanna, Principal, SNGS College, the former reader and Head of Arabic department of Maharajas College Dr. Abdu Sathar delivered the Key-note address while Professor Punnoos Jacob, Vice Principal, SNGS College, P. Abdul Ali Madani, Princiapal, Islahiya College, Kumaranellur, Engineer M Abdulla, President, Arabic Alumni Association, Maheshlal, Chairman, College Union were the guests of the function.

The workshop was organized as one theoretical and three practical sessions on the theme. In the theoretical session chaired by Dr. KP Muhammed Shareef, Assistant Professor, Marthoma College, Chungathara, Dr. Shaikh Muhammed, Associate Professor, MUA College, Pulikkal, Presented a Paper on the topic. There was an additional session on the topic ‘Multilingulism and Cultural Diversity’ chaired by Dr. KM Hilal, Assistant Professor, TMG College, Tirur, and five papers were presented on different topics discussing the functions of the Language in cultural co-existence of the humanity.

Sastrayan Exhibition

The two day workshop with the theme of Improving Penmanship in Arabic Language; theory and Practice made the different methods of Arabic handwriting explored in front of the participants and could enhance the skill of students in the distinctive style of al Ruqai writing system.

The department of Arabic organized an orientation program for the lecturers of Arabic Language on syllabus of common course of Arabic language. The program chaired by Dr. P Abdu, inaugurated by Principal PK Prasanna.Prof. T Abdul Jaleel, Member of Board of Studies, Dr. KM hilal and Dr. T. Abdul Majeed, authors of text books, Prof. Muhammed Asheref, Dr. Kp Muhammed shareef, Prof. Muhammadali steered the course. 60 lecturers form government, aided, self-financing and private colleges attended the program.

1)National Teachers Day Celebrations

As the part of National Teachers Day Celebrations The Department of Arabic conducted a one day a program with the title of ‘Guru vandanam’ on 5^th September 2018. 2)Community Extension Programme

As the part community extension Programme the Department organized a one day help desk to assist the public to submit online application for Hajj 2019 and other social welfare schemes of government. Mohamed Muhsin MLA inaugurated the program. Hajj District Trainer KP Jafar provided the Hajj applicants with the guidelines for Hajj application 2019.The District, Prof.CD Dilip, College Principal incharge, chaired the function. 3) INAUGRATION OF GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION

26 October 2018

The Department of Arabic, which started in 1968 as a single department, celebrated the academic year 2018-19 as the Golden jubilee year and conducted many academic and cultural programmes throughout the year. The department conducted a grand conference, participated by many leaders and dignitaries from different part of the state. Honorable Minister of Higher Education Dr. KT Jaleel inaugurated the conference and jubelee celebrations. MLA of pattambi constituency Mr. Mohammed Muhsin was at the presiding chair.

Hon. Minister presented the mementos to Dr. P. Abdu, head of the Arabic Department for his promotion to the Captain Rank in NCC service, and to A.P Shabna for clearing UGC NET, On the basis of department’s Community Extension Works,a letter of Appreciation from the Hajj Committee of Kerala was handed over by Hon. Minister to College Principal Dr. S. Sheela.

5) TWO DAY NATIONAL WORKSHOP

30,31 October 2018

The Department of Arabic conducted a two day national workshop on the theme of “Components of Bilingual Proficiency in Arabic and English ; a Practical Approach” on 30,31 October 2018. The workshop held at seminar hall of the college attended by scholars, experts, students, research scholars, and aspirants of Arabic Language from across the country.

The workshop is inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Syed Jahangir HOD of Arabic, English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. In the inaugural session chaired by Dr. S.Sheela, Principal, SNGS College, while Professor P.K.Prasanna, Vice Principal, SNGS College, Dr.S.Sheeja, HOD of English , Engineer M Abdulla, President, Arabic Alumni Association, K.J. Sudheesh, Chairman, College Union were the guests of the function.

The workshop was organized as four Technical Sessions in addition Inaugural and Valedictory Sessions. In the Technical sessions chaired by PT Sainudheen , Assistant Professor&HOD Arabic,TMG College Tirur, Dr.Sabiq, HOD Research Dept.of Arabic,MES Mampad College, Dr. Abdul Raheem, HOD Arabic PTM College.Perinthalmanna, and Hameed KA ,Assistant Professor, Maharajas College, Ernakulam, and Presented Papers on the topic. The practiical sessions were steered by E.AbdulKareem, former translator, AlAin Court UAE, Dr.Umer Nadvi Assistant Professor,Govt.College Chittur, Mr. Shareef Tirur,HRD Trainer,TEFL Cochin. There was an additional presentation by Prof. Easa aboobacker, principal, Salafiyya Arabic College,Karinganad, on the topic ‘Introduction to Various Dialects in Arabic Language. And Mr. EM AbdulAzeez, Former Head, New Indian School, Sharjah, UAE, presented a paper on Arabic Spoken in GCC Countries.

The two day workshop explored in front of the participants and could enhance the skill of students in the distinctive components of bilingual proficiency in Arabic and English.

6) WORLD ARABIC DAY CELEBRATION

17,18 December 2018

The department of Arabic celebrated the WORLD ARABIC DAY on 17, 18 December 2018 with various programs. The celebrations were inaugurated by Adv.N.Shamsudheen MLA. Easa Ali Mohammed Ali form State of Yemen delivered keynote address. Dr.Sheela, Principal, SNGS college Pattambi, presided over the function.

7) Valedictory Conference of Golden Jubilee Celebrations and Sent off meet to Prof. Mohammed Ashref

The department of Arabic conducted the closing ceremony of the celebrations of Golden jubilee Year 2018-19 at College Auditorium. The Vice Chancellor of University of Calicut, Dr. K Mohammed Basheer inaugurated the conference and addressed the students and teachers of the college with an inspiring speech.

As the part of the closing ceremony of Golden Jubilee Celebration, the department organized a sent off meet to Prof. Mohammed Asheraf who is retiring from the service after completing 32 years service.DR.K.Mohammed Basheer, the Honourable vice chancellor of Calicut University presented the mementos to Prof. Mohammed Asheraf. UGC NET holder UK Sajitha also honoured in the function.

8) Publishing of Book” Veyilinte Pusthakam” (വെയിലിന്റെ പുസ്തകം)

1^st March 2019

The department of Arabic published an anthology of translated short stories from Arabic to Malayalam named as VEYILINTE PUSTHAKAM. The book consisting 30 short stories and 12 mini stories belonging to 21 writers from different Arabic countries was released on 1st March 2019 at college auditorium by Vice Chancellor of Calicut University Dr. K Muhammad Basheer presenting the first copy to Dr. CP Chithrabhanu, Syndicate Member, Malayalam University.

The translation of the stories was done by final year BA Arabic students for the batch 2017-19. Dr. P. Abdu Head of the Department had written an preface for the book which was corrected and prepared under the editor charge of Mr. Muhammad Ali TK, Asst. Prof. Department of Arabic.

The releasing of the book was done at the presence of many guests, academicians, teachers and students at the closing ceremony of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Arabic Department. Prof. KB Roy reviewed and introduced the book for the audience and invited guests on the dais felicitated the work. 500 copies of the book were printed and distributed to among readers, especially different shcools, colleges and departments.

The chosen stories were for; Naguib Mahfouz, Tawfiq al-Hakim, Mahmoud Taymour, Youssef Idris, Zakaria Tamer, Ghassan Al-Kanfani, Sana Al Shaalan, Diaa Jbaili, Talib Al-Rifai, Wajdi Al-Ahdal, Majed Haider, Hajar Salem Ahmed, Ahmed Sari, Fteiha Shafeiri and others.

The book chose stories containing issues of social and psychological importance, on unity, love, struggle, loss of self, hope, and stories that depict situations of self, collective struggle and patriotism that give rise to the spirit of resistance.

9) Association Inauguration

Arabic Association of Department was inaugurated on 06 March 2109 along with BA Day of the college. The programme inaugurated by Dr.S. Sheela, Principal, SNGS College. The Arabic Dept, Under the Centre for Oriental Languages studies at SNGS College, in association with Malayalam Department, organized four Day National Project Workshop of Translation of Modern Arabic Poetry. The official inauguration of the workshop done by Musab Ali Mohammed Al Dahabi, Professor, Al Azhar University Egypt .16 recourse persons from various universities and colleges were led the workshop and translated modern poetries from Arabic and English to Malayalam.

The department of Arabic translated an Arabic Story book named “Al Youm Thabassamath” written by Dr. Muhammed Shafi Wafi and published from Egypt. The translated book “Innu Awal Punchirichu” was released on 15/06/2021 by Muhammed Muhsin, MLA. The book was translated by final year BA Arabic students of batch 2019-20. Dr.Jameel Ahmad, Assistant Professor of Malayalam had written an introduction for the book, Dr. P. Abdu Head of the Department had written a preface and which was corrected and prepared under the editor in charge, Mr. Muhammad Ali TK, Asst. Prof. Department of Arabic.

Dr. Saji Stephen, Principal of the College presided over the function. Dr. Abdu Pathiyil, HoD, Dr.Thajudheen Mannai Head of the Dept. of Arabic University of Kerala, Prof. PK Prasanna, Sree D.B. Dr. T. zainul Abid, Assistant Professor of History MES Kalladi College Mannarkkad delivered a lecture on the topic “ Cultural Heritage of Valluvanad”. Prof. V. Mohammed Ali memorial merit award was presented to BA Arabic Rank Holders, M. Fathima Safeeda (7^th Rank) & Sumayya Thasni T ( 10th Rank).
