Founded in 1966, the Department of English has evolved into a dynamic centre of multidisciplinary learning. The Department offers B.A. English–History (Double Major), a multidisciplinary programme conducted jointly with the Department of History.
Aligned with the academic framework of the University of Calicut and in tune with NEP-oriented reforms, the programme encourages:
- Interdisciplinary learning
- Critical and analytical thinking
- Skill-based and outcome-oriented education
- Academic flexibility and holistic development
By integrating literature and history, the programme enables students to understand texts within cultural, political, and historical frameworks, thereby fostering contextual awareness and intellectual depth.
With an annual intake of 55 students, the Department also handles the Common Course across undergraduate programmes, contributing to foundational language proficiency and communicative competence.
The Department is supported by essential infrastructure including a library, computer facilities, printer, and internet connectivity, ensuring access to academic and digital resources.
Through seminars, workshops, literary forums, and academic mentoring, the Department prepares students for higher studies, research, competitive examinations, and diverse professional pathways.
