Abstract
അജയ് പി. മങ്ങാട്ടിന്റെ ‘സൂസന്നയുടെ ഗ്രന്ഥപ്പുര’ എന്ന നോവലിനെ മുൻനിർത്തി മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തിലെ മുസ്ലിം പ്രതിനിധാനത്തിന്റെ മതേതര വഴികൾ പരിശോധിക്കുന്നു. ദുഷ്ടരും പരിഹാസ്യരുമായി മുസ്ലീങ്ങളെ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന മലയാള നോവലിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വ്യത്യസ്തമായി, മതപരമായ പ്രതിനിധാനങ്ങൾക്കപ്പുറം സർഗ്ഗാത്മകവും മതേതരവുമായ ജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്ന ഒരുപറ്റം മുസ്ലിം കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളെയാണ് ഈ നോവൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് എന്ന് ലേഖനം വാദിക്കുന്നു. നോവലിലെ പ്രധാന കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളായ അലി, ഫാത്തിമ, ഇക്ബാൽ തുടങ്ങിയവർ സാഹിത്യവും സംഗീതവും സ്നേഹവും നിറഞ്ഞ, മതത്തിന്റെ ചട്ടക്കൂടുകൾക്ക് പുറത്തുള്ള ഒരു ലോകത്താണ് ജീവിക്കുന്നത്. ആചാരങ്ങളെ നിരാകരിക്കുന്ന ജലാലുദ്ധീൻ റൂമിയുടെ സൂഫി ദർശനങ്ങളാണ് ഈ മതേതര ജീവിതത്തിന് ആത്മീയമായ അടിത്തറ നൽകുന്നത്. ഇതിനു വിപരീതമായി, ഫാത്തിമയുടെ പിതാവിനെപ്പോലുള്ള യാഥാസ്ഥിതിക മതവിശ്വാസികളുടെ ജീവിതം വരണ്ടതും ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടതുമായി നോവൽ ചിത്രീകരിക്കുന്നു. മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തിൽ അതുവരെ അധികം ഇടംപിടിക്കാതിരുന്ന ‘മതേതര മുസ്ലിം’ ജീവിതത്തെ കൃത്യമായി അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിലൂടെ, മുസ്ലിം പ്രതിനിധാനത്തിലെ പതിവ് മാതൃകകളെ ഈ നോവൽ പൊളിച്ചെഴുതുന്നു
