Good morning and a warm welcome to you all. Today, the college day of our college, is a significant day especially after  a year of hard work and success.  It is a day for us to recall the vision of our Founder sri Punnasseri Neelakanta Sharma ,the great scholar ,social reformer . On this occasion, I am privileged and honoured to present the annual report  for the academic year 2017-18 of  sree neelakanta govt.sanskrit college. Let me begin my report with felicitating faculty Mr Punnoose Jacob,Vice principal  who retire this year after several years of devoted and committed service to this institution.Also with great gratitude college is remembering the contributions of Mr Ramachandran, Mr sathalawi, our staffs in office. Also it is an element of proudness that our faculty member Dr m sathyan ,Dept of Sanskrit has nominated to Syndicate, Calicut university.

One of the few special grade colleges in the state  Sree Neelakanta Govt.S anskrit college has, accredited at A grade by NAAC, has been recognized as the centre of excellence in higher education. Presently, the College is functioning with 11 under graduate and 6 post graduate programmes along with 4 research departments. The college has 85 members in the teaching departments and 41 in the ministerial pool. The student strength of the college is 1526 out of which 84% are girls. They are excelling in the field of academics, culture, arts, sports and other extensive works. The college Union Election was conducted in a very peaceful atmosphere and Sri. Dileep C D, Assistant Professor of Physical Education, discharged the duties of returning officer successfully. Sri. Mr Kaladharan P V, Assistant Professor of Statistics has been nominated as the staff advisor to the College Union. Smt. Kala B, Assistant Professor of Malayalam, Sri. Sivasankar S, Assistant Professor of English and Smt. Sharmila K Thankappan, Assistant Professor of Sanskrit have been nominated as staff editor and fine arts advisors respectively. We have an excellent team of faculties with dedicated teaching and research commitments. Construction work of science block commenced during the year. The work is progressing with high speed and which is expected to be complete shortly. The construction of open stage using the CDC fund is almost complete.

One of the greatest success which is always coming out of greatest hardwork of this year is Poetry Carnival 2018,organized by Malayalam Department.An event which has placed our college as a important role player in the cultural geography of Kerala and even in india.Another important step was Learning management system initiated by IQAC.On this occasion I congradulate Dr santhosh Hrishikesh and all his team for their excellent contribution to this institution.The college hosted Cele-Fiesta,a new platform visualized by the Calicut University union, is materialized with it’s fullest meaning.I congratulate University Union General secretary,our union councellor Neeraj.A N.An open house programme, Sasthrayaan to showcase the facilities and achievements of our college has conducted with all it’s colours.I take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Binitha for coordinating Sasthrayaan.

Post graduate department of Chemistry has started online coaching for HSST chemistry examination  as Dr manoj as the coordinator.88 aspirants enrolled in the coaching. Dept has organized a Two Day National Seminar on Emerging Trends in Nanomaterials Science and Technology on 19th & 20th December 2017.One major research project under Extramural Research Scheme of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi is ongoing in the Department with our faculty member Dr. Binitha N N as the Principal Investigator.Two UGC Minor Research Projects were ongoing in the department with the faculty members Mr. Roy K B and Ms. Anjaly Mathew as the principal Investigators.Dept.  could file an Indian Patent on “Process of Preparation of Biodiesel from Triglyceride Oils”.Our faculty members had delivered Invited Lectures in the Orientation Programs and in different colleges. .Dr. Binitha N N had published 5 papers in international journals in the year 2017 – 2018. Our faculty member Dr. Resmi M R had published two papers in the international journal in the year 2017-2018.Our Faculty member Jincy EM had submitted her PhD thesis in the year 2018. Three of our research scholars had submitted their thesis in this academic  year.Several  Students of the department qualified in GATE – 2018  UGC JRF in June 2017.

The department of commerce has the credit of having 100% pass percentage in M. Com,B. Com, & BBA.Ms  Shaiba P has got first rank in BBA and Ms Gayathri V P has got fourth rank in BCom examination. This year the department conducted a two day national seminar utilising the fund sanctioned by the government of Kerala. Faculties in the dept have given lectures in various programme in different institutions.The department has played very vital role in the Sastrayan Programme conducted by the college. This year, the department submitted a detailed and solicited  proposal for commencement of M.Phil programme in Commerce in the college. Serious efforts are being made by the department to upgrade it as a research department.

Department of sanskrit conducted a two day national seminar utilizing the fund sanctioned by Govt.of Kerala. The Department actively participated in the Sastrayaan project on 15&16 February 2018. .Kum Amritha K.B. got second rank in the   B.A. Degree Examinations of the university of Calicut. Smt  Ajitha M. got first rank in the M.A. Examinations. The department conducted a programme on Kutiyattam and Nangyarkuttu in collaboration with the SNA kutiyattam Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram on March 8. The annual Punnassery Memmorial talk conducted last year in the month of June. The department offers UGC-NET coaching for M.A. Students. Assistant Professor Dr V.G. Thanu coordinates the classes.Many research papers were published by the faculties.

The post graduate department of Economics has conducted a two day National Seminar titled, ‘Debates on Indian Macroeconomics’ on 18th and 19th December 2017. Final year students of the department visited an old age home and spent a day with the inmates. They also conducted a survey on the problems faced by the inmates. The Department also showcased many aspects of the subject during ‘Sasthrayan-2018’. Major events in Indian economy, concepts related to budget, major problems faced by Indian economy and practical banking were all displayed in a way easily conveyable to students and general public. Teachers of the department have participated in various academic seminars as resource persons, chair persons and delegates. The department also conducted class PTAs for all the batches.

Malayalam dept has organized Anoop memorial talk by Sunil P Ilayidam.HSST coaching was initiated and  effectievely conducted by the dept. Dept has became the premise for publishing books by local writers. In  saasthrayaan Malayalam department has exhibited different documents related with different projects which are progressing in the department.The third edition of annual poetry carnival has organized on 9,10,11of March 2018,and more than 200 writers ,artists and around 2000 people have attended the performances and discussions. Using LMS system of college department has provided all the notes and learning materials based on the degree and PG syllabus. And also Internal exams were started to be conducted through LMS system.I wholeheartedly congratulate the students and teachers of  Malayalam Department

Dept of Botany has organized a lecture series by research forum. A workshop was conducted on 25thand 26thMay 2017 for higher secondary school teachers and Research scholars.  More than 25 participants were there for the workshop.  National Hands-on Workshop on “Mitotic and Meiotic Behaviours of Chromosomes: The workshop was conducted on 18th and 19th December 2017 for college faculties and research scholars. More than 30 participants attended the workshop. Herbarium of our department was renovated and inaugurated by Mr. Ramachadran.

The department of History and English conducted two day national semiunar on 14 th and 15 th December 2017. The department actively partivcipated in Shasthrayan by demonstrating the local archeology through photographs.

Head of the department of Zoology, Dr.P.Haridasan was promoted as Principal of Govt. College, Kondotty. On the celebration of Evolution day, our department conducted a talk on the classical book written by Charles Darwin- ‘the Origin of Species’. It was done by our 3rd semester B.Sc Zoology student, Mr. Sujith. M. S. Department also organized an invited lecture on the topic ‘Secret of Health and Diseases- A tale scripted in Genes’. It was presented by an eminent scientist Dr.Shobi Valleri, DBT Ramalingaswami fellow scientist D CSIR-NIIST, Trivandrum who was a co-worker of Nobel Prize laureate Jeffery C Hall on 17-11-2017. A two-day workshop on Bioinformatics was organized by the dept.of Zoology on 6 & 7 December 2017, sponsored by DCE.

Physics Department has an excellent achievement in the academic level. Vismaya K T and Vidhya P achieved 2nd and 11th Rank respectively in the Calicut University Examination 2017. Department of physics conducted a National Work Shop on ‘Nano Science & Technology NT2K17’ on  21st  Dec , 2017 at SNGS College, Pattambi.

     Department of Mathematics has conducted a Quiz program for High school students related with sasthrayaan. 18 groups of students participated in our program.

Dr. Sreedevi E.P. of department of Statistics presented a paper in the 10th MMR conference at Grenoble, France from 3 to 6 July 2017 with the travel award of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment ( KSCSTE) for Kerala Young Scientist awardees. Dr. Sreedevi E.P. of department of Statistics had awarded a majour Project titled ‘statistical analysis of time to event data under censoring and truncation’ budgeted 17 lakh sponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment ( KSCSTE). Department of Statistics organized a two day National Seminar on ‘Statistics: Life and Praxis’ on 11th and 12th December 2017, which was funded by the Kerala Collegiate Education department.

Dept. of Hindi conducted a two day national seminar utilizing the fund sanctioned by the Govt. of Kerala. Dr.P.K.Prathibha, Assistant Professor, Presented five papers in the various national seminars.

The Department of Arabic conducted a one day program with the title of ‘Ramdan Thoughts’ on 14 June 2017. On 13 0ctober 2017 the Department of Arabic organized the annual Arabic Meet for the graduates of Arabic Department. As the part community extension Programme the Department organized a one day help desk to assist the public to apply for Hajj 2017 and other social welfare schemes of government. In collaboration with DPI (Arabic Unit) the department of Arabic celebrated the WORLD ARABIC DAY on 16, 18 and 19 December 2017 with various programs. The Department of Arabic conducted a two day national workshop on the theme of “Improving Penmanship in Arabic Language; Theory and Practice” on 18, 19 December 2017. The department of Arabic organized an orientation program for the lecturers of Arabic Language on syllabus of common course of Arabic language.

I am taking this opportunity to congratulate faculties and students of dept of physical education for their great achievements this year .The college has Produced 2 International Players   DurgaMadhavan (Dept of Botany) And Dilshar (Dept of Commerce)n the Game of Wushu.Three of our students participated in national junior wushu championship and won two gold and silver.More than 15 students of our college represented Kerala in various sports and Games. Ms Alka represented State of Kerala in senior women cricket nationals and secured runner up .Our women cricket team became Champion team in Calicut University  Inter Zone Womens Cricket Championship. I congratulate HOD dileep and mr aju T G for their great efforts and initiatives.

Scholar  support programmes, coordinated by Ms Raseena,Dept.of economics, has been conducting the programme with the purpose of reaching maximum number of students.The programme has supported hundreds of students in various subjects.

Walk With Scholar (WWS) could give a new direction to excellent students in the institution.  Dr Rajesh P N is effectively coordinating and directing it ina disciplined way. Study materials have been sourced and are being distributed among the students.

The Boomithra Sena Club coordinated by Pramod A, Dept of Commerce, is a forum engaged in the promotion of awareness on the eco- environmental issues among the students. The Club has succeeded in materializing the objectives and club gave colour to saasthrayaan by supplying freely plants and seeds.

The 1 Coy. NCC unit in the college is functioning under the 28 Bn. NCC Ottappalam and has 160 cadets of which 55% is girls have enrolled and being trained under it. Dr Abdu .P is the NCC officer. It gives me pleasure to mention here that the two cadets of the 1 Coy. NCC of our college took part in  the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. L/Cpl.  S. Akhil participated in Prime minister’s Rally, Line area inspection and cultural events. L/Cpl. Nidhin N.P. was one of the participants in Rajpath Rally.           On 21 June, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, the NCC unit of the college held under its aegis a Yoga exhibition and training program.On 15 November, in connection with  the NCC Day Celebration, the unit organized a blood donation camp. In connection with Promotion and transfer of The Pricipal Dr.KK Suma,  NCC unit arranged a grand fare well by giving her a guard of honor .

The cadets of the unit organized a cleaning program on the occasion of the Swatch Bharath Abhiyan.  Mohammed Salih CA, the senior under officer and Cpl.Noah Manoj  participated in National Integration Camp at Mumbai. under officer, Archana N, took part in Advanced Leadership Camp in West Bengal, Cpl.Ashraf .C. participated in A.A.Camp at Coimbatore.      A Grand reception function was organised to honour RD Cadets Nidhin and Akhil on 21/02/2018.  The Independence Day and Republic Day were celebrated under the NCC unit in a colorful way. On the 26th January 2018, an alumni association was formed under the leadership of old ncc cadets .  49 cadets completed their “B” certificate examination and 45 cadets attended for “C” certificate Examination during this year.

            Entreneurship development club actively involved in developing various innovative skills among students such as one day awareness programme on Entreneurial development, food fest, case studies, industrial visits and file making. Miss. Sreeja Assi. Professor Department of commerce is highly appreciated to organize these programmes. 

           Dr Manoj and his team is coordinating Career Guidance and Placement Cell has organized several training and recruitment programme which gave exposure of job market to students.

Nature Club of SNGS College is coordinated by Dr Maju T T, participated in the first Odonate survey conducted at Periyar Tiger Reserve from 27th to 29thOctober 2017. Butterfly garden with many honey and host plants were made in our campus in collaboration with Botany Department.

It has become necessarily high time to present the report regarding the activities and merits of National Service Scheme, with reference to NSS Units 40&88. The activities that spanned across different dates comprises of the Survey conducted at Ongallur, with the support of Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishath, on 1st October 2017, District level camp held at Govt. College, Chittur and Paliative Care camp held at Govt Law College from 10-12 November 2017. NSS Units were active in the Pre- Mansoon Cleaning Programme on 29 May 2017. Kiran Venugopal of 2nd Year B.Sc Chemistry class attended the National youth Festival sponsored by Govt. of India.  He is a volunteer of our Unit. On 17th of December in commemoration with the death anniversary of Indianoor Gopi Master, Pattambi College saw itself as the venue for various programmes. The programme became a big hit with the help and support of NSS volunteers. NSS made its presence in the Nila Cleaning campaign conducted on 26 January 2018.

PTA is the livewire of the college. Its role in the overall development of the college is worthy of special mention. Our PTA is providing financial assistance to the office, union activities and National Service Schemes as and when necessary. It continues to offer free computer classes to first year UG students. Infrastructural inadequacies created by the massive increase in UG and PG seats by the University were handled smoothly with the timely assistance of PTA. The PTA has appointed two staff in the computer centre and a watchman. It also installed a fence surrounding the college campus in order to secure it from encroachers. A delegation from the PTA visited the chief minister in his office and requested creation of new posts in BA Arabic and BSc Physics and also requested for order to commence MSc Zoology which has already been declared by the Chief Minister. The PTA offered all kinds of assistance in putting the Learning Management System on track. It was also instrumental in making ‘Sasthrayan – 2018’ and ‘Kavithayude Carnival’ a grand success. The department of Chemistry installed the plastic disposal system with the cooperation of PTA. In order to improve the intellectual investment, the PTA has given financial assistance to the library so as to subscribe new journal and continue the existing ones. The body was also creatively involved in all activities of the college like the Association days, Arts day, Departmental seminars and cele fiesta.

It will be a mistake if I forget to mention the activities of college union and I personally so happy about the humane values they maintained in their activities.I express my gratitude to college union and chairman Maheshlal.k.
