Department of Sanskrit

Sanskrit is the first and the oldest department of the College. It was an outgrowth of the language faculty at Saraswathodyothini Sanskit School, the seed of the present college. When the school was elevated to the status of the college with the new name Central Sanskrit College with affiliation by by the University, it automatically became a department imparting training for Vidwan and Siromani titles roughly the equivalent to present graduate courses. The Institute attracted students from far and wide. In due course of time, the Central Sanskrit College became the hub of scholastic debates and is reputed to have spawned as many as thirty five institutions dedicated to the cause of Sanskrit. In 1931, the department was recognised as research centre. Three year undergraduate programme was started in 1966 and two year postgraduate programme in 1968. The University of Calicut recognised the department as research centre in 1979.

Department of Malayalam

The history of Malayalam department dates back to 1911, the very beginning of the college. Among the first courses offered was Malayalam Vidwan, though it was long before the course was renamed and formalised by into bachelor programme in 1966. Post graduate programme was launched in less than two years, in 1968, and the department was bestowed with the status of a research centre 1977. With nine members and an in exhaustive synergetic strength, the department is right in front of every facets of the college. In terms of publications, research output, writings, resources and social interventions, the department is simply unique.

Department of Commerce & Management Studies

With fourteen teachers and three programs, the department of commerce stands apart in many respects. It attracts the students with highest mark in the qualifying examinations and the chances of a commerce graduate are bright-in fact a near certainty- in securing jobs and going for higher studies.

Department of Chemistry

The FIST sponsored postgraduate department of Chemistry had a humble beginning in 1967 when the college started offering physical sciences as optional subjects at the erstwhile pre-degree classes. The department was to enjoy a steady and systematic growth as evidenced from the fact that B.Sc was launched in 1974 and M.Sc in 1982. The department admits 25 candidates every year for B.Sc. and 12 for M.Sc. Admission is based on merit, that is, the score/grade in the qualifying examination. The department has applied for a research center and is waiting for the outcome.

Department of Botany

The postgraduate department of botany came into being in 1967 with the introduction of sciences at the now extinct pre-degree, and B.Sc was started in 1977.  It was in 1995 that postgraduate program was launched.  There are eight faculty members of who four are doctoral degree holders. Five of them are rank holders at the postgraduate level too.

The department of economics was established and undergraduate program started way back in 1966. The department started offering postgraduate program in 1979. The specialisation in agricultural economics and business economics is the basic highlight of the department.

1969 witnessed the birth of the department of zoology. With four members and student strength of seventy-five, the department offers undergraduate program. A library, well-equipped labs, museum, computer and internet are the resources offered by the department.

Department of English

The department of English was established in 1966, immediately before the launch of the pre-university course. The department offers B.A. English—History, in equal partnership with the department of history, in addition to engaging the common course of all undergraduate programs except BBA.  Thirty students are admitted to the graduate program.

It was in 1966 that the department of history came into being in 1966. Now, the department offers English-History in association with the department of English.  For economics majors, a complimentary course is also offered by the department.

Department of  Arabic

The Arabic language was being taught as a Second language for Under Graduate level since 1970. The UG programme has been converted into Choice Based Credit and Semester System from 2009 admission onwards. So the language papers is renamed as a common course in UG Programmes . The B.A Arabic course started in this college from 2012.

The department of Physics had its beginning in 1967 when the college started offering physical sciences as optional subjects in pre-degree classes. Later  Physics became subsidairy subject of B.Sc Chemistry which was launched in 1974. The B.Sc course started in this college from 2012.

 Department of Physical Education

The Department of Physical Education, Sree Neelakanda Government Sanskrit College had the privilege of being a home to several renowned sportspersons who have brought laurels to the institution at various levels. There are around 12 sports, which includes Football, Cricket, Rugby, Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Karate, Kalarippayattu, Yoga, Wushu and Boxing etc. are offered in the curriculum.
